A deconstructed ruched satin maxi in black, where the seaming reads as shadow and only the light on the folds gives it away. Deconstructed seaming leaves parts of the ruching visible from the outside, so the shaping shows as construction rather than hiding inside the dress. Satin catches light along every gathered fold, which is what makes that exposure worth looking at instead of merely unfinished. Floor length, no stretch. For receptions and evenings where a dress should read designed rather than pretty.

Our cut runs relaxed — if you're between sizes, take the smaller one

Most of our pieces are cut easy-fit rather than close-fitting, so the usual advice to size up doesn't apply here. If your measurements fall between two sizes, take the smaller one.

Swimwear is the exception — it's cut closer to the body, so for swimwear only, take the larger size.

Shoes

Shoe sizing varies by style. Most of our shoes show a US and EU pair — for example US 8 / EU 40. Some styles show a single number instead. If you're between sizes or unsure which system a style uses, email contact@thealif.com before ordering and we'll confirm.

How to measure

Bust — around the fullest part, tape level, arms relaxed.
Waist — the narrowest part, usually just above the navel.
Hips — the fullest part, roughly 20cm (8") below the waist.

Keep the tape snug but not tight, and measure over underwear rather than clothing.
