A tie-waist knit midi in black, the workhorse of the two, and the one that takes any coat and any boot. A tie at the waist lets you set how defined the middle reads, which is what a knit midi needs — without it the dress falls straight and loses its shape by the hip. The knit stretches and recovers. Midi length, hem between knee and ankle. It works over boots in winter and with sandals in spring.

Our cut runs relaxed — if you're between sizes, take the smaller one

Most of our pieces are cut easy-fit rather than close-fitting, so the usual advice to size up doesn't apply here. If your measurements fall between two sizes, take the smaller one.

Swimwear is the exception — it's cut closer to the body, so for swimwear only, take the larger size.

Shoes

Shoe sizing varies by style. Most of our shoes show a US and EU pair — for example US 8 / EU 40. Some styles show a single number instead. If you're between sizes or unsure which system a style uses, email contact@thealif.com before ordering and we'll confirm.

How to measure

Bust — around the fullest part, tape level, arms relaxed.
Waist — the narrowest part, usually just above the navel.
Hips — the fullest part, roughly 20cm (8") below the waist.

Keep the tape snug but not tight, and measure over underwear rather than clothing.
