A ruffled crystal-floral gown in black, where the crystal centres are the only light in the dress and register sharply because of it. Ruffles run down the length rather than gathering at one point, so the volume is distributed and the dress moves as a whole. Floral work is set with crystal at the centres, which is what stops the flowers reading as printed pattern. It is cut in polyester, which is what lets the ruffles hold their shape through an evening rather than dropping. Sleeveless, so the shoulder stays bare and the ruffles carry the drama below. Floor length, made for garden receptions and summer weddings.

Our cut runs relaxed — if you're between sizes, take the smaller one

Most of our pieces are cut easy-fit rather than close-fitting, so the usual advice to size up doesn't apply here. If your measurements fall between two sizes, take the smaller one.

Swimwear is the exception — it's cut closer to the body, so for swimwear only, take the larger size.

Shoes

Shoe sizing varies by style. Most of our shoes show a US and EU pair — for example US 8 / EU 40. Some styles show a single number instead. If you're between sizes or unsure which system a style uses, email contact@thealif.com before ordering and we'll confirm.

How to measure

Bust — around the fullest part, tape level, arms relaxed.
Waist — the narrowest part, usually just above the navel.
Hips — the fullest part, roughly 20cm (8") below the waist.

Keep the tape snug but not tight, and measure over underwear rather than clothing.
