A padded lapel jacket in black, the workhorse of the two. It takes any colour underneath and covers a midi hem cleanly. A padded jacket cut with a proper notch lapel rather than a stand collar, which is the detail that keeps it from reading as sportswear — it works over tailoring as well as over jeans. The padding is quilted close rather than blown, so the volume stays controlled and the shoulder holds a line. In cotton, so the outer face softens with wear. Size for what goes underneath rather than close to the body.

Our cut runs relaxed — if you're between sizes, take the smaller one

Most of our pieces are cut easy-fit rather than close-fitting, so the usual advice to size up doesn't apply here. If your measurements fall between two sizes, take the smaller one.

Swimwear is the exception — it's cut closer to the body, so for swimwear only, take the larger size.

Shoes

Shoe sizing varies by style. Most of our shoes show a US and EU pair — for example US 8 / EU 40. Some styles show a single number instead. If you're between sizes or unsure which system a style uses, email contact@thealif.com before ordering and we'll confirm.

How to measure

Bust — around the fullest part, tape level, arms relaxed.
Waist — the narrowest part, usually just above the navel.
Hips — the fullest part, roughly 20cm (8") below the waist.

Keep the tape snug but not tight, and measure over underwear rather than clothing.
