It reads formal enough for a church, a marquee or an evening reception, and it spares you judging a hemline against a venue you have never seen. This is our largest wedding guest edit — floral prints for daytime ceremonies, lace and appliqué for something more dressed, halter and strapless necklines, and backless cuts for evening. The practical advantage of a maxi is that it carries from the ceremony through to the dancing without a change, which matters when the day runs twelve hours. Have the hem taken up to your exact heel height if you can; nothing else changes how a long dress looks as much.
